[Movies] David Lynch Almost Directed Return of the Jedi
Posted by Ashish on 12.11.2009

Director David Lynch (Eraserhead, Muhlholland Drive) was offered the chance to direct Return of the Jedi back in the day. He obviously passed on it, but a video of him talking about his interview with George Lucas about directing the film came up at a recent Q&A and is below. Lynch said that he started getting a headache when Lucas showed him "these things called Wookiees" and that he eventually told Lucas that he should direct the film himself.

Everyones known about Lynch being offered Jedi for years, so no surprises here. Interesting though that Lynch says he was getting a headache when hearing about Lucas ideas, and yet he instead decided to do Dune. I'm surprised Lynchs head didn't explode like a Cronenberg character trying to make sense of that script! That one turned out to be a fascinating misfire.

If you saw Dune, then you should know Star Wars fans should consider themselves lucky he didn't direct it. He also had a worse Prequel then Lucas if you can imagine that.
